Kanasu's Aunt: Kanasu, will you please listen to your mother?

Kanasu: I am. But I don't agree with her. I am not interested in cooking.

Kanasu's Mother (softer tone) : Kanasu, my dear, you should know these things.

Kanasu: No. I want to study Science! I'd prefer to work as a science teacher than spend all my time in the kitchen.

Kanasu's Aunt:For now, at least help us spread the red chillies in the sun. Then go back to studying.

Kanasu: I have an exam tomorrow, I'd rather study. I don't have time.

Kanasu's Aunt: Kanasu, you don’t understand. you are too young to take decisions.

Kanasu (interrupting): Y...but I know what I like and don't like. I'm not young! I think I hear Fatima.

Fatima:Kanasu! Kanasu!

Kanasu :Fatima! How are you?

Kanasu's Mother:Hi Fatima, how is everyone at home? Would you like to have a cup of tea?

Fatima:No, thank you, Aunty. Everyone is fine. I have to go home now and make tea for the whole family. Kanasu, do you want to come?

Kanasu:Sure, let's go!

Kanasu's Aunt:But didn't you just say that you have to study?

Kanasu:Erm, yes. Of course, I have to. I will study with Sahir.

Kanasu : So, tell me! How are you?

Fatima: My Class 12 board exams are around the corner. There's a lot to study. I want to do well so that I can get a good job. But, it is difficult when I have to do the housework as well.

Kanasu:How do you manage, Fatima? My mother is very angry with me because I don't like cooking. I prefer studying. I think I should be able to choose.

Fatima: There are reasons why I feel this way. You are lucky to have an aunt who helps your mother, but my mother needs my help. After school, I have to help cook dinner and wash the vessels. It is only after all this is done, that I can study.

Kanasu: Do your brothers help?

Fatima:Sahir helps sometimes. But, Danny doesn't lift a finger.

Fatima:Good! Sahir has bought some samosas. I will make the tea. We can talk after that.
