Rina was telling Zika, “Zika, you are so lucky that you are good at Science and Maths- you will get admission into a good science or engineering college, get a good job, make a lot of money and be very happy!”. Zika replied in a sad tone, “I may be good in Science and Maths but I am not sure that’s what I want to do. Actually I love to draw and paint and I would like to become a painter. But nobody supports me and everybody feels that artists are good-for-nothing people and don’t make any money. I am not sure I will be happy doing Science or Engineering’’ Rina replied, “Oh! I never thought about what you are interested in- I assumed that as many people are desperate to go into science and engineering, you would want to do that as you are good in these subjects. I was not thinking about what you are, and what you want to do. From now on, I will try to understand each person directly and avoid making some assumptions about them based on stereotypes”.
