Kishore is walking home. He’s very tired - he had to wake up at 6 a.m. to fill water from the common tap in his colony. Then he helped his father bathe and shave and change his clothes. And then he went to school. It is now late afternoon and he is very hungry.
Sameer’s driver is driving him home. He too is very tired. He had to wake up at 6 a.m. to go for his cricket coaching class. Then he came home, did some homework, packed his bag and went off to school. He too is very hungry.
Kishore is wondering what he will get to eat at home. He hopes his sister and brother have not finished off everything and have left some food for him - maybe some roti or some kurmura.
Sameer hopes that his cook has made something interesting to eat. Maybe samosa or pau bhaji and not just some boring roti and sabzi.
On the way Kishore sees his friend going on a bicycle. Oh! How he would love to have one! Then he could ride to school instead of walking for 20 minutes. Having a cycle would make life easier for him. He could ride it while going on his evening newspaper round. That would be fun. It would also save him so much time and energy in the evening when he was dead tired in any case.
Sameer’s car stops at a traffic light. Next to him is a fancy red foreign car – all gleaming metal and shiny paint and huge tyres. His eyes light up just looking at it. Wouldn’t it be fun to ride in one of those! He could go so fast and all his friends would envy him.
