To observe how the story has impacted children, I would ask I would simply ask them OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS like-
Imagine if they were Yasmin how would you react to this situation? By this I would notice whether their responses talk more about a somber atmosphere at home in which the financial situation is pitiable and hence quitting the education for not being a financial burden on the parents would be a good idea.
OR do the subjects show the spirit of being a support system to the mother and younger siblings by uplifting their morale and manage to earn money as well as study alongside. I would ask them the reasons of taking any of the stands they choose.
I’d ask if there are some children who already work to support their family, if so, how and why?
If it is a school that is a low income school (where I go on to pilot this study) there might be such issues existing in their families, I would inquire how the children manage to study and contribute in the monetary aspect of the family.
While noting down the responses I would keep in mind the gender of the students. Are the girls as willing to work for wages and study alongside as the boys? Do they consider themselves equally capable to be empowered and support the family?
