Letter 3

I have always admired this group of older boys in my neighbourhood. They are so cool. Sometimes they let me hang out with them. Last week, they wanted me to drink and smoke with them. I think some of them were even taking drugs. I said ‘no’ and they teased and harassed me. They called me coward. Finally I took a drag of the cigarette. It tasted horrible and made my throat hurt, but they all clapped me on the back and said great. I felt really grown up and part of their gang when they said that. I know that smoking and drinking are bad – but if I say ‘no’ to them I will lose their friendship. What should I do?
